02/22/2009 - Columbus, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Mike Davis led all players with 22 points, and the 18th-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini got a key 70-68 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes at Value City Arena.

Davis, who scored only four points in Illinois' 38-33 loss to Penn State last Wednesday, went 11-of-14 from the field, as the Illini won for the fourth time in five games. Demetri McCamey added 15 points and seven assists in the team's third straight road victory.

Trent Meachem scored 17 points for Illinois (22-6, 10-5 Big Ten), which shot a highly efficient 58.3 percent from the field and led from start to finish.

Evan Turner topped Ohio State (17-8, 7-7) with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists, and Jon Diebler also had 17 points in the Buckeyes third straight loss.

William Buford scored 14, while P.J. Hill contributed a career-high nine points, as Ohio State had a three-game home winning streak versus Illinois snapped.

Trailing by five to start the second half, Ohio State cut its deficit to 41-39 on B.J. Mullen's layup 6 1/2 minutes into the period.

An 8-2 burst by the Illini, capped by a McCamey layup, gave the team a 55-47 edge with 7 1/2 minutes left in the game.

Shortly after, Chester Frazier drained a three-pointer to make it a 10-point game with only six minutes to go.

With Illinois leading 65-57 after a Meachem three with 2:40 left, Ohio State mounted a comeback late. Turner's layup cut the deficit to 67-63, and he had a chance for a three-point play. The free throw attempt was off the mark, but Hill grabbed the rebound and scored with 38.9 seconds to go, making it a two- point game.

Meachem hit both ends of a 1-and-1 for Illinois with 26.5 seconds on the clock, extending the lead to 69-65, and Ohio State failed to score on its next possession.

McCamey drained one more free throw with 11.9 seconds left, and the Illini held on from there.

An early 6-0 run by Illinois put the visitors out in front, 11-4, just over three minutes into the game.

Six straight points by the Buckeyes closed the gap to 16-14, but the Illini answered with three consecutive field goals for a 22-14 lead midway through the period.

Ohio State battled back to tie the game at 24 on a couple Diebler free throws with three minutes left, and Illinois closed the half on an 8-3 burst to take a 32-27 advantage into the locker room.
